Hello, my name is Helen Perera. I have run seven marathons over the past few years and running 26.2 miles never seems to get any easier! Balancing the training, my family life and a full time job is always a struggle, but this is nothing in comparison with the day-to-day battle that some young children face every day, without the full use of their arms and legs.

For this reason, I would like to run the Flora London Marathon this year to help raise money for Harvey. When I initially met Harvey the first thing I noticed was not that he didn’t have legs, but his big smile and positive attitude.

The fact that he didn’t have legs didn’t seem to make much difference to him. All of the obstacles that he has faced in his short life have not stopped him from being a bubbly, friendly and outgoing young boy who just wants to have as normal a life as possible; playing football with his mates, running round the park and just doing the things that all the other able-bodied boys do. Without a new pair of prosthetic legs however, it will be near-impossible for him to join in and do all of these things.
